How do you introduce yourself to Ugandans during your maiden concert? With a bang of course; and that is just what Shaffer Chimere Smith, aka Ne-Yo did in Kampala on Friday during the Bell Pop’n Jam concert.
Not even the early afternoon rain dampened the spirits of his Ugandan fans. Over 30,000 fans turned up at the Lugogo Cricket Oval and cheered on relentlessly as the American Superstar belted out his most of popular hits.
The American Superstar who has been the trending topic for close to three months in Uganda’s entertainment circles gave his fans a show to remember. In fact, the Bell Pop’n Jam concert according to pundits can only be compared to the massive UB40 concert that also took place at the same venue back in 2008. What was clear from the concert was that Bell Lager gave Ugandans an experience that even the rain couldn’t steal from them.
Ne-Yo who jetted into the country on Thursday 29th October with a 35-man team knew Ugandans eagerly awaited a massive performance from him, and boy did he wow them!
“This is my first time in Uganda and definitely not my last. I love you all. Now, let’s have some fun,” he said mid-way through his energetic performance.
Ne-Yo’s started off his performance with his latest hit; She knows. He then followed it up with Sexy Love, Miss Independent, I’m in Love. By this time, everyone was screaming their lungs out.
“The party is just getting started. My name is Ne-Yo, I love you to death. Thank you so much,” Ne-Yo said.
So sick followed, Let me love you, One in a million, Closer. The party was indeed on!
Ne-Yo’s concert in Kampala was one big celebration of the rebirth of Bell Lager. As part of the evening’s activities, Bell Lager presented its new iconic pack. The pack now comes with a gold foil around its neck, a red band with distinct brand call out. The Bell inscription stands out from the rest of the design, but coming together with other elements to convey more style, dynamism and elegance.
Just below the Bell Lager logo are three Monde Selection Gold medals that speak the tremendous quality of Bell lager.
The new pack was unveiled to the audience just before Ne-Yo and his band took over the evening’s proceedings.
According to Mark Mugisha, the Head of Beer and Innovations at Uganda Breweries Limited, Bell Lager has a new look but maintains the same great taste.
The organizers of the concert pulled all stops to ensure that the party went down as the best in recent years. The lineup of curtain raisers was an impressive one; Nutty Neithan, Irene Ntale, Mun G, Navio, Sheebah, Cindy and Chameleon.
Top disc spinners; Selector Jay, DJ Shiru and DJ Crisio all worked up the crowd….warming them up for an unforgettable evening.
Ne-Yo who went by the name Go-Go before he found success is a multi-talented artiste. He is an actor who has starred in a number of dance movies such as Stomp the Yard, Save the Last Dance 2, and most recently Red Tails. He is also an accomplished song writer who has written songs for Rihanna, Jay Z, and Beyoncé and recently for Celine Dion.
Ne-Yo and Bell Lager have set the bar high for music promoters with this concert. It remains to be seen who will surpass that.
